Mil-Spec Connectors
In short, Military Spec (MS) connectors are designed to cope with extreme environmental situations, harsh and rugged use and resistant to various atmospheric conditions by the plating finish they may have. The basic MS connector must comply with a range of technical specifications, if there is any minor variation from the spec, it will be found under a manufacturer “in house” part number system but in effect it still complies predominantly with the relevant military specification.
There are several MS standards, but we will relate to predominately those which we find have more frequent use in either military or industrial applications. The oldest spec is Mil-C 5015 which is available as either solder terminated (more common in industrial applications) or a crimp option. Next is the Mil-C 26482 Series 1, a small signal level product which is available as solder or crimp termination. Mil-C 26482 Series 2 is a rear release crimp option. Beyond this it goes to D38999 Series 1, 2, 3, & 4 however these are predominantly used in defense or avionics equipment.
Only the two most used items are described above, within all the Mil-C families there are numerous alternative options and connector styles, consult us for further break down of the ranges.
In relation to the crimp options, Connection Technologies represents DMC Tools, a long-standing leader in the manufacture of all the crimp and accessory tooling required to assemble these connectors.
